Dr. Acar Joins CSSALT as Simulation Fellow

Yahya AcarYahya Ayhan Acar, MD, has joined us for a yearlong Simulation Fellowship.

Dr. Acar is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine at University of Health Sciences, Gulhane School of Medicine, in Ankara, Turkey. He earned his medical degree at Gulhane Military Medicine Academy, School of Medicine, in Ankara, Turkey, where he also completed his residency in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Acar also completed an Advanced Medical Simulation Fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, through the nationwide SimLEARN program. Several of his research projects during the fellowship, including on using standardized checklists to increase the completion rate of critical actions in an evacuation from the operating room, simulation training in early emergency response, and simulation manikin modifications for high-fidelity training of advanced airway procedures, resulted in publications. He also developed curriculum and training for dental surgeons.

Additionally, Dr. Acar is a member of the Emergency Medicine Association of Turkey and serves as Chairman of the association’s Aeromedical Transport Study Group as well as Secretary-General of its Innovation in Emergency Study Group. He holds several certifications in emergency medicine and anesthesia.

He is an author on 26 peer-reviewed publications, has given several major invited speeches on emergency and disaster medicine in Turkey, and is involved in the patent process for two innovations.
