Overpressure protection

Last I saw CSSALT made a simple overpressure protection valve using PVC pipe plug and some rubber banding (from the bicycle inner tube?). Has there been any progress or updates on this critical overpressure valve design? Can a PEEP valve from an ambu bag be modified to operate as an overpressure pop-off valve, perhaps with a higher spring preload? Do you need help with this component?

This is one part of the design that must be foolproof. Using a high pressure source (50psi in this case), regardless of how many safety checks, pressure sensors or redundant micros you apply, there must be a failsafe overpressure valve that works without fail to protect the patient. > approx 50cmH2O risks bursting the lungs.
