Trainer for digital rectal examination for advanced cervical cancer
A digital rectal examination (DRE) in female patients is an integral component of evaluating advanced cervical cancer.
Alexandra De Leo, M.D., a resident in the UF Radiation Oncology program, approached CSSALT with the need for a task trainer to improve teaching this important physical examination skill.
CSSALT is working with Dr. De Leo and her mentor, Anamaria Yeung, M.D., Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, to design and build a task trainer to demonstrate features of advanced cervical cancer that can be detected on physical examination. The device will be based on a prostate biopsy simulator that CSSALT already built, which can also be used for DREs of the prostate.
