SMMARTS-compliant simulators are capable of supporting remote learning of procedural skills with little or no modification using publicly available video conferencing software. This was first developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to comply with social distancing.
Demonstration using SMMARTS-compliant Mixed-Reality Simulator of Thoracic Regional Anesthesia
The senior instructor, junior instructor, and learner were physically separated in this demonstration. The junior instructor controlled the simulator tablet from a distance while viewing the session from the learner’s perspective via the camera mounted on the trainee’s head. The senior instructor coached the junior instructor from home.
